Our 10th Wedding Anniversary Celebration*
Resort: Animal Kingdom Lodge (6 nights)
Trip Notes: Mommy was 6 months pregnant during this trip! Click here for WDW expectant mother tips!
Summary: Well, once again, thanks to Mary @ MouseSavers.com, we stayed at this Deluxe Resort, concierge level, Savannah view room for six nights! The Animal Kingdom Lodge (AKL) is Disney at its best! When it comes to a family-friendly resort, I can't think of any resort that's better equipped to thrill guests of all ages! The decor is authentic, and even many of the items in the gift shop are genuine African-made. Even if you don't stay here, this intriguing resort is definitely worth a visit! Plan a visit and dinner at Boma!
Flavors of Africa: Boma, this restaurant alone is enough reason to head on over to AKL! We ate with some friends who happened to be vacationing at the same time as us, and we all had a great time! The food is amazing, we all agreed!
Concierge Bonus: The concierge lounge at AKL is very
similar to the Polynesian's Hawaii House lounge.
AKL's concierge offers the private Breakfast Safari! It's a great opportunity to experience the Savannah in a far better
way than the
standard Kilimanjaro Safari ride, and the following breakfast at
Tusker House is unique and superb!
Disney resorts with concierge now offer this program under various titles.)
The pool at AKL is Disney's largest, and is perfect for the 5(ish) and up crowd.
Season: As with our first trip, the mid-spring weather was amazingly comfortable and we highly recommend this time of year for a visit. (See our 2005 report for late Nov./early Dec. weather conditions...another comfortable time to visit).
Animal Kingdom Lodge's ONE Drawback...transportation. We found the bus system frustrating, and slow! It's a shame because it's such a wonderful resort otherwise.
2007 Update: As new DVC members, we are very excited to hear the the DVC will be adding the Animal Kingdom Villas this year!

*This trip was originally planned for our 10th Wedding Anniversary, which was September 2004. But, since we were expecting our 3rd child in the summer of 2004, we decided our best option was to celebrate a little early! If you're celebrating anything at WDW, let the Cast Members know...they'll make sure it's extra-special for you!
